Ubay is also associated with tales and legends. One of the famous tales about is the story of a fisherman who retrieved the image of the Holy Child or the Señor Santo Niño, when he was fishing aboard his small boat. It is believed that in the retrieval of the Holy Child, the citizens of Ubay started to devote it and made the image, Señor Santo Niño as their patron saint. The first fiesta for Señor Santo Niño was on January 15, 1876. Now, still Señor Santo Niño protects us from disasters and dangers.
Ubay is the best-know in terms of leadership because it is led by good leaders which implemented the rules and regulations for the town's improvement and for its progress. The leadership of the town was passed on from generation to generation of good leaders. The local Government of Ubay accomplished many projects that are useful for the citizens of Ubay. Presently, the Mayor of Ubay is Mayor Eutiquio Bernales who made many reforms and improvements are the completion of the municipal gym, the cementing of the Poblacion highway, the improvement of the town plaza and the marketplace. There improvements made, lead the town of Ubay to be famously known all over the province of Bohol.
Ubay is composed of varying beautiful tourist's spots that can attract the eyes of local and foreign tourist. The carabaos milk is made into milk pops and fresh milk drinks that can quench the thirst that a tourist suffers during his travels.
Ubay is also surrounded with beaches all over its shove line. Investors come and invest in ubay's shove line to develop beach resorts with the best amenities for the tourists. Since Ubay is quite a large town, many industries have emerged in it. Since early days, Ubay has been always a very good fishing ground due to its numerous islets, lagoons and coral reefs teeming with almost all kinds of marine lives. It is because the seas around Ubay are calm throughout the year. The people living along the coast of Ubay are naturally fisherman and traders. The latter travel to different parts of the archipelago to sell native products and to bring products from other places. Likewise, the people living in the interior parts of Ubay are farmers and there chief crops are rice, coconut, corn and root crops. The women are expert mat weavers and their products are sold throughout the Philippines. There are also vast plantations of fruits and vegetables and the fruits are sold in Ubay Public Market.
Ubay also has Institutions which support and assure that the youth of Ubay will acquire knowledge and someday shall help Ubay for its progress. Our town has Elementary Schools in each Barangay which act as the first step for the youth to acquire knowledge. There are eight high school institutions in Ubay which mold the student's morality, values and discipline them. Lastly, there is a college institution here in Ubay which mold a person to his best and help him achieve and finish his course to help his hometown to progress. Everyone is welcome in these institutions.
Ubay is a town of festivals and fiestas. Each barangay of Ubay has their town fiesta. The most famous fiesta all over Ubay is the annually celebrated "Ubay – Ubay Fiesta" which serves as a devotion to Ubya's Patron Saint Señor Santo Niño. Tourists may come during this particular event and witness a Sinulog Dance, Miss Ubay Coronation and a Basketball Tournamen. This celebration brings a smile to everyone and it is annually celebrated on every last Friday and Saturday of the Month of January.
As a whole, the town of Ubay is continuously moving by leaps and bounds towards progress and it is hoped that someday, the town will become the capital of Bohol and earn a niche in history. Like in the words of Mr. Joseph L. Fetterman, "The facts of today were fancies of yesterday and will be the memories of tomorrow. Practically, every deed was once a dream; every intention was once an imagination."
